As most of you know I was diagnosed with cancer in May of this year. I had a large tumor in my chest. After surgery, hormonal shots, chemotherapy and radiation the tumor has decreased in size from 12 centimeters to 6 centimeters. I was recently at Penn State Hershey Medical Center for follow-up. My oncologist, Dr. Almokaden, gave me a good report. I am feeling well and have resumed near normal activities. Unless I develop symptoms of progression, I will not require any follow-up until March of 2021.
I have increased my leisure activities to include jogging and biking and I’m hoping to even do some skiing this winter. I continue to enjoy reading and studying a variety of subjects and I’m playing a lot of piano. I am starting to think about what else I might want to do with the rest of my life. However, with the pandemic surging I remain by choice essentially quarantined, enjoying my time at home with Elizabeth.
For now, the times of trial and tribulation and suffering have gratefully passed. This is a good thing although I must admit that my cancer experiences did provide a lot of the inspiration for the writing of my blog.
I do plan to continue writing about cancer and theology and philosophy as the spirit leads.
You are Amazing! So glad to hear you are doing so well! Beyond medical treatments I truly believe that God was a big part of it 🙏🏻. I include you in my prayers every night and believe he hears them all. Just this week I was told by my doctor that I am in remission. God is good!! Good bless you ❤️.

Dr. Hirsh, Have you given any thought to writing a book? I’m sure your dear friend, Lynn Eib, could give you some pointers. I feel confident that you have a lot of inspiration to give to others…not just cancer patients, put the general population. May the Lord bless you and keep you in His loving care. I will be forever grateful that you allowed God to use you to help and inspire me and so many others. Blessings and continued prayers, Sharon Mindemann

I second the suggestion of writing a book. If not that, then at least please continue to write your blog. I agree with Sharon that you have provided a great deal of inspiration and hope to those of us who have cancer. In addition, your writing has validated many of the feelings and thoughts I have had through my cancer experience. I have read all of Lynn Eib’s books, which have been a great deal of help as well. Again, I agree with Sharon, you and Lynn have allowed God to use you to help and inspire. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for sharing. You are continually in my prayers.
